Am/G Piano Chord

Am/G is a A Minor chord played over a G bass note. G is not one of the notes of A Minor (A – C – E), so Am/G is an added-bass (true) slash chord — the bass adds a new colour underneath the chord without changing the notes on top.

The dark key is the bass note (G); the coloured keys are the A Minor chord tones.

Notes in Am/G

Low to high: G (bass) , then A – C – E.

How to play Am/G

Play the bass note G low in your left hand, and the A Minor chord (A – C – E) in your right. Keeping the chord shape familiar in the right hand and just changing the bass is what makes slash chords easy to read and play.
