Terms of Use

Effective date: April 2026 · Last updated: April 2026

Welcome to piano.org. By accessing or using this website, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use the site.

1. Purpose and Use

piano.org is an educational and reference resource for pianists of all levels. The content on this site — including chord charts, scale diagrams, interactive tools, practice guides, and written articles — is provided for informational and educational purposes only. The site is intended to supplement your musical practice and learning, not to replace formal instruction.

2. Interactive Tools

piano.org provides interactive tools including a virtual keyboard, audio playback, fingering overlays, and staff notation displays. These tools are provided “as is” and “as available.” While we strive for accuracy in all musical content, we do not warrant that every chord voicing, scale fingering, or notation rendering is error-free. Users should verify critical musical information with additional sources, especially for professional performance or academic contexts.

3. Intellectual Property

All content on piano.org — including text, graphics, interactive tools, software code, audio samples, visual designs, and the overall look and feel of the site — is the intellectual property of piano.org and its creator, unless otherwise noted. This content is protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.

You may access and use the site for personal, non-commercial educational purposes. You may not reproduce, distribute, modify, create derivative works of, publicly display, or commercially exploit any content from this site without prior written permission.

4. Prohibited Conduct

When using piano.org, you agree not to:

Scrape, crawl, or use automated tools to extract content from the site in bulk. Redistribute, republish, or syndicate site content on other websites or platforms. Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract source code from the site’s interactive tools. Use the site in any way that could damage, disable, overburden, or impair its servers or infrastructure. Frame or embed the site or any of its pages within another website without permission.

5. No Warranty

piano.org is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We do not warrant that the site will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of viruses or other harmful components. We make no guarantees regarding the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of any musical content, including chord charts, scale diagrams, fingering recommendations, and audio playback.

AI-generated content. The chat widget and post-practice feedback features on piano.org are powered by the Anthropic Claude large language model. Responses generated by these features may be inaccurate, incomplete, or out-of-date. They are provided for general guidance only and do not replace professional instruction, medical advice, or any other expert recommendation. You should independently verify any musical claim before relying on it for performance, exams, or teaching.

6. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, piano.org and its creator shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of or related to your use of or inability to use the site, including but not limited to damages for loss of profits, data, goodwill, or other intangible losses, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

7. Third-Party Links

piano.org may contain links to third-party websites or services that are not owned or controlled by us. We have no control over, and assume no responsibility for, the content, privacy policies, or practices of any third-party sites. Visiting external links is at your own risk, and we encourage you to review the terms and privacy policies of any third-party site you visit.

8. Modifications to the Site

We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any aspect of piano.org at any time without notice. This includes adding or removing content, features, or tools. We shall not be liable to you or any third party for any modification, suspension, or discontinuation of the site.

9. User-Submitted Content

Some features of piano.org accept content you submit, including but not limited to leaderboard display names and practice scores submitted from a connected MIDI device. By submitting content to the site, you represent that you have the right to share it and you grant piano.org a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to display, store, and use that content as part of operating the site — for example, displaying your chosen display name and composite score on public leaderboards.

Display names must be appropriate for an audience that includes children. We reserve the right to reject, modify, or remove any submitted content that is offensive, misleading, infringes on another’s rights, attempts to impersonate piano.org or its staff, or otherwise violates these terms. Submitted scores may be rejected if our anti-cheat checks indicate they are inconsistent with plausible MIDI performance.

You are responsible for the content you submit. Do not submit personally identifying information about yourself or others in a display name or other public-facing field.

10. Changes to These Terms

We may revise these Terms of Use at any time by updating this page. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page indicates when the latest changes were made. Your continued use of the site after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised terms. We encourage you to review this page periodically.

11. Governing Law

These Terms of Use shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Florida, United States, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any disputes arising under or in connection with these terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located in the State of Florida.
