Disclaimer

Effective date: May 2026 · Last updated: May 2026

piano.org is an educational and reference resource for pianists of all levels. This page collects the most important disclaimers that apply to your use of the site, its tools, and the content it generates. It supplements (but does not replace) our Terms of Use and Privacy Policy.

1. Educational Purpose Only

All content on piano.org — chord charts, scale diagrams, interactive tools, practice guides, written articles, and any output from the chatbot or practice-feedback features — is provided for informational and educational purposes only. The site is intended to supplement your musical practice and learning, not to replace formal instruction from a qualified teacher. We make no representations that using piano.org will produce any particular learning outcome, exam result, or level of musical proficiency.

2. No Warranty of Accuracy

While we strive for accuracy in all musical content, we do not warrant that every chord voicing, scale fingering, interval label, or notation rendering is error-free. Music theory has competing conventions and regional variations. You should verify critical musical information with additional sources, a teacher, or a printed reference, particularly for professional performance, recording, or academic contexts.

3. AI-Generated Content

The chat widget on piano.org and the post-practice feedback feature are powered by the Anthropic Claude large language model. Responses generated by these features:

  • May be inaccurate, incomplete, or out-of-date.
  • May confidently assert false information (a known limitation of large language models often called “hallucination”).
  • Should not be relied on as legal, medical, financial, or professional advice of any kind.
  • Should be independently verified before being used for performance, exams, teaching, or anything where accuracy matters.

The chat widget displays an in-product notice that responses are AI-generated. Conversations are stored as described in our Privacy Policy.

4. Physical Practice and Injury Risk

Piano practice involves repetitive physical motion that can cause or aggravate musculoskeletal injuries — including tendinitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, focal dystonia, and overuse strain. piano.org publishes fingering recommendations, technique guidance, and tempo progressions, but we are not in a position to assess your specific posture, hand anatomy, or medical history.

You are responsible for practicing safely. Take regular breaks, warm up, and stop immediately if you feel pain, tingling, or numbness. If you have any pre-existing condition or experience persistent discomfort, consult a licensed medical professional or qualified piano teacher in person. piano.org and its creator are not liable for any injury resulting from practice based on content from this site.

5. MIDI and Audio Features

Practice analytics, MIDI input, audio playback, and pitch-detection features depend on browser APIs, your hardware, and your operating system. We do not guarantee that these features will work on every device or browser combination. Web MIDI, for example, is not available in Safari at the time of writing; some features will gracefully degrade or display a notice instead. Latency, timing windows, and accuracy scores from MIDI features are estimates — they should not be used for high-stakes assessment.

6. Third-Party Content and Links

piano.org may reference songs, recordings, or artists for educational context (e.g. “songs that use this chord”). These references identify the works but do not include the recordings themselves; copyright in the underlying music and recordings belongs to their respective owners. piano.org may also link to external websites; we have no control over and accept no responsibility for the content or practices of those sites.

7. Changes to This Disclaimer

We may revise this disclaimer at any time by updating this page. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page indicates when the latest changes were made. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised disclaimer.
