Circle of Fifths

The circle of fifths arranges all twelve keys around a wheel, each a perfect fifth above the last. Reading clockwise adds one sharp per step; counter-clockwise adds one flat. The inner ring shows each key's relative minor. Click any key to see its scale, diatonic chords, key signature, and notation on the staff.

The wheel. Your key rides at the top. Its neighbours are its IV (left) and V (right) — the chords it leans on hardest — and the inner ring is its relative minor. Step left/right, or grab the wheel and spin it, to turn through the fifths.

How to use

  • Click any key on the wheel — or drag to spin it — to load that key’s scale, chords, and notation.
  • Read the key-signature badge to see how many sharps or flats the selected key carries.
  • Find the relative minor on the inner ring: it shares the same notes as the major key beside it.
  • Use the neighboring keys as closely related keys for modulation and chord borrowing.
  • Tap any diatonic chord or the scale link to jump straight to its full reference page.
